Brilliant Traces, by Cindy Lou Johnson, directed by Sande Shurin, with Maria Elena Maurin and Chris Grady. A 90 minute roller-coaster of a play about feelings of isolation and people's need to be understood. Both comic and anguished, Brilliant Traces is set in a recluse's cabin in an Alaskan blizzard where a runaway bride seeks shelter. In 1980, our director Sande Shurin changed the direction of teaching acting with her new “Self and Character” based technique called Transformational Acting. Focusing on the uniqueness of each actor and developing their ability to be “Prescenced”, to use their current emotions, and to transform who they are into the written character. She coaches the actor to take bold actions, take risks, and continually move past their limitations.
