In the 1930s, Charles Lang invents an engine that runs using water for fuel. But when he tries to get it patented, he is first offered a ridiculously low amount. When he refuses, several people are pressuring him to sell. The big oil companies don't want the competition. Now he has to try and keep them from getting his idea, and somehow get it published.

Director's Notes: This is Chicago, 1934. The Chicago World's Fair: A Century of Progress has been delighting local and international tourists for over a year. We are in the midst of the Art Deco Period and the last Art Deco skyscraper in Chicago, the Field Building, has just been completed. Prohibition has been repealed, but crime is still on the rise and some refer to these times as "The Era of the Public Enemy". John Dillinger has been shot down in front of the Biograph Theater and Baby Face Nelson has been found in a ditch. Adolph Hitler has just declared himself Führer of Germany. It's the middle of the Great Depression and FDR's New Deal is just getting off its feet with programs like The C.C.C. (The Civilian Conservation Corps). The movie and music businesses are booming giving everyone an escape from their day to day struggles and The Great White Way, Broadway, is having its heyday. Frango Mints have be a Chicago delicacy since 1929 and it's The Golden Age of Radio.
